Not anymore. Aelita has her energy fields and wit to do that now. Odd was so gutted because he could no longer deactivate towers and he felt that he was useless because of that.

the one who deactivates the tower was aelita and they had to protect her it didn't make them sidekicks

Something seemed off in this episode. There were good things like upgraded specters and Odd singing was kinda funny, but the William scene with Xana-William-Specter and the dead end chase scene were pooly planned and or edited.
